Could any of you good people help?

I have just purchased a 2003 Elddis Avante 534 and was just wondering if you think i would have any trouble towing with my MG ZT-T 160. Have towed with a 1991 Lunar Clubman 460 2-ek before and encountered no problems what so ever, but the avante is a heavier van.

Any info would be appreciated

cheers

Hi

The MG is 1500 kg and the caravan is 1462 Kg so the ratio will be high at 97%.

The MG will have the power you need and will only really struggle when you pull away on a hill, you can get that sorted by having it chipped as that version of the MG can be chipped to nearly the power of my 190.

Weight is your biggest problem. 85% would be safer but if you are confident and have not passed the vehicle train weight then you are not braking any laws

I don't think the weight of the 2003 Avante 534 is 1460kg - the 2005 model I looked at before I bought the Avondale was less than 1400kg, so the 2003 model will be about 1360. MGR group cars are often heavier than one would expect - websites put my 75 Estate diesel at about 1550kg, but the logbook says 1688kg. Combine these, along with the firm sports suspension and low profile tyres and you should have no worries with stability. Power wise you should be OK, though hill starts may be a bit laboured with turbo lag, and you may have to rev the engine on inclines, but I know that ZT petrols love to be revved, so this isnt so much of a problem. I would say go for it!

Cheers
