Mice in caravan

Found evidence of mouse in my caravan. Any suggestions to make sure they leave and stay out

Mary,

Sorry to hear you have mice in your caravan.

First of all clean up all the droppings and make sure there are no mice left in the caravan.

Look under the bunks and in cupboards and cover all the air holes with very fine metal mesh. Make sure all the edges of the mesh are sealed.

Where pipes, gas water or electric, go through the floor of the caravan, make sure the holes are fully sealed with mastic round the sides of the pipes. Don't forget the surround of the air inlet for the fire under the caravan.

Open the gas locker and check the bulkhead is sealed all the way round the edges with mastic. The slightest gap round the edges means mice can enter the caravan from the gas locker.

Double check underneath the caravan for any holes you may have missed.

It is a list of jobs but the only way to be sure no more mice enter.

On top of all that I put down in the van on jam jar tops a "little drinky" of weak anti freeze solution [10% ish]. As used in the car and for topping up the van's Alde central heating. If they get in they will not be "about" for long.

However make absolutely sure this is placed and disposed of where no-one, cats etc cant get at it, its lethal hence why used.

Also put the plugs in the sink/whb/shower tray to prevent creepy crawlies entering the van for winter.

Hello Mary

My very simple and easy way of keeping mice out of the caravan --- get some mothballs.

Cut up 4 old bits of stocking and place a mothball in each piece. Hang these from the very top of each steady covering each corner of the caravan. Vermin will not enter using this method. I have tried it several times and even vans stored closeby had no problems!

Initially I tried putting them inside the van at each corner but trying to get rid of the smell at the beginning of the season was a bit difficult.

We had mice in the front box of our van due to the fact we left the barbeque in there. They chewed through the cover to get to the fat on the grill.

We now take the BBQ out of the van altogether.
