Mice

Hello all,

So i have discovered that we have a problem with mice, can anyone please provide any advice to deter the little terrors?

We have the sonic deterrents (the batteries may have run out on these) and i have put wire mesh on where i think they could possibly get in.

all advice is welcome as my van will be going into storage next week until spring.

Thank you in advance

Sam S

Mice depend on the scent from their urine trails to find places which they might infest.
Use Jeyes Fluid on corner steadies and tyres to obliterate the scent trails.
Remove all traces of foodstuffs from inside the caravan, I've known mice to try to eat Silky caravan paste polish so leave nothing that they might eat. Don't leave toilet tissue or kitchen roll, mice can use these items for nest building. Renew the sonic deterrent batteries

The best deterrent used to be the good old Mothballs, but they were banned as being some kind of threat to humans, and they could be ground down as a constituent to make explosives.

So, you need to make absolutely sure that all traces of food are removed, and as they like to rip up cushions etc, I would advise taking your van cushions indoors (I know finding space may be difficult ) and try and find a strong smelling alternative to Mothballs,,,,Perhaps something like Camphor.

Also perhaps invest in some humane live mouse traps, but these would need checking every day and the mouse removed to some distant release site. (maybe not your next door neighbours van)

If the access points can be found, then a heavy dollop of grease (as in axle type grease) placed on the exterior of the entry point can prove very effective.

Put a bit of wire wool or a brillo pad into the grease 'poultice' for extra effect.

Mice are easy, but sugar ants are worse, they appear overnight. But mice jump over thing like Kerosine traps. Little buggxxrs

'Touch wood', we've never had any trouble (ours is kept in open field storage), we place scented dryer sheets in drawers & cupboards and make sure you leave absolutely nothing edible to attract their interest
