Yes he was a great entertainer, yes he obviously worked hard, but, come on guys, yesterdays newspaper.... the first 19 pages was all about him and surely there must be something else happening in the world, but the news channels don't think so.

What the papers concern is Chris is the fact that the reporting will sell the paper. Their main concern is sales just as the Telegraph capitalised on MP expenses. They are sensasionalising the topic with add ons such as his loss of money and creditors waiting to pounce, the future regarding his children, whether he has actually died or is this a means of selling records to regain some of his wealth and a get out of any future gigs such as the O2 in London, etc. etc. It is all down to sales for the newspapers/magazines/TV.

I agree, this is all way OTT. Yes, I have some of his music and yes he has entertained many people over the years but his peculiar behaviour in recent years has done nothing for me I'm afraid!

How can someone earn vast amounts of money like that and then die leaving lots of debt? I wouldn't be surprised if Neverland is opened up to the public soon, and I hear that coach tours are already making diversions to see the rented house that Michael collapsed in...

Why are hundreds of people queuing to walk past a concrete slab with his name on it????? Sad !

We tried to ensure that the topic with condolences and tributes to Michael Jackson was left for that purpose so there's no reason to pull a topic which is mentioning the hype and hoo ha surrounding Michaels death.

People are alllowed to have various opinions and some of the jokes were in poor taste given the time and circumstances which is why they went from the other thread but nobody is breaking any rules by posting about the press coverage.

Oh thanks Parksy, so we're allowed to comment on this one then.

I wasn't a fan of his music as it's not to my taste but he was a fantastic singer and mover. No doubt about that.

Regardless of his upbringing, it still has to be said that it's not 'normal' for a man to have boys (who are unrelated to him) sleeping in his bed, or even unaccompanied in his mansion. Whether Michael didn't have a normal childhood or not.

However, I did watch a few documentaries over the weekend and heard him speak and to be honest, he sounded like a child himself. However, he did pay the family off who made allegations of a sexual nature about him. So we have to read between the lines.

I wonder what will be said about Gary Glitter when he croakes it. I was a massive fan of his until it was found that he is a child abuser.

The papers must be having an absolute field day...... Oh, and all my comments above have been reported and documented in the press, no doubt about that.

Freedom of speech.

I am pleased LMH Lisa and others are able to say what they think. I actually agree with LMH Lisa, for the record.

My opinion is that Freedom of speech is a good thing. Imagine if there was one side and that was it. Certain people would be very vulnerable.

It works both ways. I watched the police tayser topic in this forum seeing a good example of 2 sides to a story. I felt more awareness of certain issues.

On a lighter note:

"When you hear THREE sides to a story it makes you wonder about history!"

I watched a short piece of news footage today which featured Michael Jackson's father.

He was supposedly paying tribute to his dead son but I was a bit surprised when he plugged his own new record company!

Just my opinion but I'd say that MJ's father looks exactly what he is.

Maybe I was a bit dramatic in my last post. I just think there are sadder things that have happened to people I know around me.

One of the BBC reporters on Breakfast was also surprised that the dad had been having discussions with record companies.....before the funeral as well !

I wonder if Blanche off Corrie is planning to go, "she loves a goood funeral"

I've come across a few sad stories, but none of them have brought so much happiness to tens of millions of people like Jacko.

MJ is an American equivalent to Royalty and was a hell of a lot more popular.

Fancy his dad using his son's death as a marketing opportunity. Disgusting.

I haven't see the news since last week (well, bar the weather forecasts).

We're all in big trouble this week anyway as it said, there's three levels to this heatwave and we'll reach level two which is quite dangerous and could result in deaths. God, the media, they love it don't they?

I think that there will be a load of books and yet more newspaper and magazine articles about Michael Jackson.

So called 'superstars' are always surrounded by sycophants, hangers on and leeches. They will all want to carry on riding the gravy train and they will see Jacko's death not as a sad event but as a money making opportunity.

How can somebody who reportedly had 'personal physicians' wherever he went as well as teams of 'bodyguards' and goodness knows what else suddenly turn up his toes at 50?

Had he worked down a coal mine, in heavy industry, with dangerous chemicals or asbestos during his lifetime?

Most of us who have manage to struggle on past 50 years of age despite having to wait for a doctors appointment and then wait even longer before NHS hospital treatment.

I wonder how he would have coped if he'd have come to the UK this week as planned? Would the heatwave that the news readers are obsessing about have killed him? He would have been a global warming martyr and it would all somehow have been our fault.
