Millitary Ban

On the news today was a report of a serving soldier in HM Army being banned from a hotel for one night's accommodation. The report on TV stated that this occurred in June 2008. Why has it taken the family of the serving soldier so long to make this fact public. Also is there a major issue with this as he would not be the first or the last person, be it a member of the public or a serving forces personnel to be banned from accommodation at a hotel. In my opinion it has been sensationalised out of proportion.

The ban may be a disgrace if he was turned away for purely being a member of the armed forces. If it was for other reasons well who knows. Why though has it taken the family so long in making the fact public - what do they expect now to gain from it.

I heard this being discussed on Radio 4 in the night (terrible insomnia!). The soldier was back from Afghanistan where he was injured, (broken arm) and went to Woking in Surrey to visit the family of a fellow soldier who had died in action. He wanted to speak at the funeral. He had pre-booked the hotel in Surrey, but when he got there, and showed his military pass (not sure what that is, some kind of ID?), the duty manager told him they don't accept military personnel and he would not be able to stay there. He asked why, but no one would tell him.

The family passed their concerns onto their MP and the MOD, and I think it is the MP who is encouraging the family to speak about it now. Probably more on the news tonight. They said that it was common, because military personnel are notorious for fighting/ drinking / antisocial behaviour.

I thought it was self explanatory but if not so I will explain.

Would a serving soldier, whilst in Bagdhad or Kabul expect to stay alone in a hotel? Answer, probably not unless they were stupid hence my comment of "depends where the hotel was".

Again, if you read Colyn ap Brydgynds original post he gives the barest of details and after my post LOIS posted the account of what happened. Quite simple really if the thread is followed ;O)

BTW Mods, steve who made the comment above regarding military personnel is the richard head whose posts you have been deleting.

Some of the comments are typical of those who jump in head first without knowing the facts. THE HOTEL WAS IN WOKING.

I know a little bit about the attitude of some towards our HM Forces - I had 36 years of it. I am happy to say the majority appreciate them. JTS.

I don't know about others JTS but after LOIS'S post of "and went to Woking in Surrey" I was quite aware afterwards where it was so there's no need to shout ;O)

Regarding "knowing the facts" that is what I was doing, asking about the facts hence my ? at the end of my sentence :O)
