Hi all has enyone fitted a mini Heki roof light to relace plastic version, do you use mastic strips and finished with sikafix or do i use the flexable caravan sealant than finished with sikafix 512 how easy to install regards mark

I replaced the small roof light on a Lunar Clubman with a mini Heki.
The job was really easy and the most important part of the job is to remove all traces of the old sealant before fitting the new roof light.
I used a plastic scaper and then cleaned off the residue with white spirit. I used the sikaflex in the tube to make a bead of sealant, fitted the Heki and screwed it into the inner surround. Then use a corner of clean rag dipped in white spirit to clean off any excess sealant.

as parksy said its easy did mine once its out i could get thro the hole to clean off the mastic used hair drier to soften then white spirit left tube of sealer on radiator to soften make sure screw length is correct as if they bottom ,it seems alright then you get a leak as sealant sags out.The strip sealant seemed a little thin to me although I,m sure it is OK
I have replaced three so far but only ever had a leak on the first one using the strip,used a tube on the others with no problems.

They are very good and of course not only do they open vertically, the whole cover can be slid sideways for maximum air ventilation. However, just remember you have done this, as if you leave it, and it rains, you will get a wet van. I have done it a few times, although have been fortunate not to have the rain. It is too easy to forget to look up to check it.
By the way, I also forgot to mention it can be a useful way of having a quick look at the roof. Stand on a small box and poke your head out. Look at all the dirt and quickly go back in.

You are one step ahead of me. I have a cover and it is coming off at the beginning of March. As I cleaned the van before putting the 'jammies' with luck it is ready to go.
When you get to the stage of using the screws to hold lower and upper part togetherm, get them ll just started and then take them tight a little at a time, going from one to the other diagonally - down get one side all the way tight first.
The one i fitted some years ago came with screws which were a little to big (diameter) and split a couple of the moulded "tubes" into which they screwed. I used W4 mastic tape and found it gave an excellent clean joint with virtually no cleaning up necessary.
