Mondeo 2.2 TDCI Ghia hatchback(2006)

Just had our first trip away with the Mondeo towing our Lunar Lexon DS.
Prior to this, my towcar was a LWB 2.8TD Pajero so weight, etc was never an issue.

Bought the Mondeo as the Pajero fuel consumption when towing(~14mpg) was getting a bit silly.

So. I was astonished at how well this car tows. With our Lunar, it works out around 89% with a 150kg car payload and it's incredibly stable.
It pulls away better than the Pajero, it certainly brakes better(this surprised me) and I felt very confident towing.
Only issue was a little snaking which we found was down to a combination of worn friction pads in the Alko hitch and I forgot to remove the paint on the towball when I fitted the towbar 😳

Other than that(which will be sorted this week), it's a superb towcar and I'm glad I bought it.
Having the 2.2 engine really makes a difference as it pulls effortlessly while still returning around 35mpg with a loaded caravan of around 1400kg. On a solo M/way run, it shows just under 60mpg.
I was sad to sell the Pajero but these are figures I could only have dreamed about and I'm really enjoying the Mondeo.
Looks like there's going to be more trips this year. 🙂

I'm glad you're happy, I've never towed with a Mondeo myself but I've yet to read a bad report about diesel mondeo's as tow cars
