hi there people me and my family are looking at buying a caravan which needs to be a 4 berth. my question is i have a 2002 mondeo 2.5 v6 zetec s but not sure if this has the guts to pull a 1988 abi marauder 4/5 berth. this is a 16ft long van and i think has a mlw of 1150kg. also what sort of mpg will i be looking at when towing any help would be great.

thanks ian.

The kerbweight of the Mondeo is around 1500kg depending on the level of equipment and the maximum permissible towload is 1800kg so if that hasn't got the guts to pull 1150kg I don't know what has.

ok so the caravan i'm looking at is within the 85% rule but has my car got the power to pull it. i do not want to be stuggling up hills when were down in cornwall and plasces like that. the last thing i want is to only be able to do 50mph and lorrys coming past me like i'm standing still. i'm not saying that i want to go belting down the road at 80mph because i dont. but it would be nice to have some power when needed.

thanks ian.

Hi Ian,

Just started caravaning and have been away a few times and we have a Mondeo 2ltr TDCI 2005, it pulls our Bailey Ranger 500/5 like a dream so I would not worry about using your car to tow the van you want.
