Mondeo TD

Does anyone have any advice about the Ford Mondeo Turbo diesel made between 1995 and 2001 the one before the latest model came out? How it coped towing and how much the MPG and acceleration suffered. Was it still able to accelerate at all? we have a Avondale Sandmartin which weighs about 900 kilos

Cheers

My parents towed a 900kg Elddis with a 1998 Mondeo 1.8TD with no problems. Admitteldy they aren't as quick as todays diesels, but with about 90bhp they can cope with towing most moderate caravans.

We towed with a 1998 TD estate for a couple of years. I found it underpowered even when driving solo. Towing up and down hills was very tiring as there was constant gear changing - even when it didn't look as if there WAS a hill! Our van is only a light one - 750kg unladen, max 1000kg fully laden and I doubt we ever reached that. This would not be my choice for a tow car again. We currently tow with an old Fiat Tipo TD (1997 cc) and that performs better than the Mondeo ever did.
