Hello there,

I was wondering if vanyone knew if this car would be suitable to tow my caravan, i no it is capable, but im not sure because of the sports suspension, and allso if you can attach a towbar to it, when ive looked on towbar sites they say except the sports model..

I have seen a Tit X sport with a towbar fitted and it was a Ford Direct car.The cut out was quite noticable but it depends on how concerned you are about cosmetic looks.

The lowered sports suspension shouldn't be a problem - I towed with a Mondeo Mk3 ST hatch which is also lowered and never had a problem.

You could just go for the normal Tit X model which is still a fine motor.

Thanks for that Jonathan its put my mind at rest because i really fancy one as my next car, how have you found it at towing, and have you had any bother with water in the boot like ive read on some forums.

Rab - bit of confusion here . I don't have a Tit X Sport but have seen them with bars on.I did have the Mk3 ST hatch though.I have an S-max but has the same engine as the Tit X sport - the 2.2 which is a very good engine for towing.

Hi Rab.I have a Mondeo Hatch 2.2 TDCI o6 reg and found its a great towcar.

We tow a 07 Lunar Zenith EB MIRO 1080 and it pulls it effortlessly with no twitches or swaying.

I obviously take great care not to overload and sensibly load the heavier items on the floor close to the axle.

Only problem we found was the 75kg noseweight limit on the towbar.

The lunar does seem a little nose heavy so this weekend im having heavy duty springs fitted to the Mondeo.(Not to be able to load more in the van)but to help stiffen the suspension a little.

Plenty of power in the Mondeo and returns 45-48 solo,30-35 towing.

Had no water problems in the boot.

Hope this helps.

You must have a good tailwind to get those sorts of MPG's from a 2.2d Best I ever managed towing at 60mph was 29mph with a van similar in weight to yours.

Its true.Solo figures are for work and back and shopping etc..

When im towing i always stick to 50-55mph .

Wife wants me to get a move on but being a lorry driver, those speeds suit me fine.

Towing is part of the holiday so i like to take it easy and enjoy it.

To get these figures i Start with a full tank,do say,350 miles then fill it back up and get the calculator out...lol
