Mondeo Tyres

Got a 54 2.0 TDCI diesel, up until now have been sliding all over the place, tow a 1450kg sterling sapphire. Just had an mot and it failed on tyres - suprise suprise. Will be putting Goodyear tyres on, just wondering what tyres do other mondeo drivers use?

Ive got an 06 reg 2.2 tdci hatch and ive got Enduros on mine.

225/40/18.

Ive found them to be brilliant both solo and towing

I used goodyear tyres when i had a 53 2.0 130bhp mondeo and i towed an ace celebration, i noticed the back used to sit down a bit so i fitted spring assistors,

just wondered if you had noticed this with the mondeo and if you had considered them because it made a big difference.

Thanks for your replies, jon-george if i am only getting 10-15k out of them i will be needing new tyres every 8 months as i average 20k per year, and that is just back and fore to work.

We haven't noticed it sitting low on the back, will have a look next time we tow.

Tyres failing an MOT suggests they were well down, and by your own admission that they only seem to be lasting 8 to 10K miles really suggests to me that something is wrong.

The MOT only checks the condition of tyres and suspension systems, they don't check that every thing is fully aligned. Given the concerns you have about tyre wear, I think it would be worth having the geometry of the cars suspension and running gear fully checked.

Are you rotating the tyres between front and rear or is that the wear on the front wheels?

I ran my mondeo 130 tdci estate, towing a 1500Kg caravan on Michelins, and consistently got 22,000 from the fronts, 44,000+ from the rears. The rears could have gone a little longer but I changed them every other time I changed the fronts.

that is what they told me when they were fitted and it also depends on how you drive on how long the tyres last. i have also added spring assistors on it just incase it sat low. so far i have done 13k on my tyres and the fronts are on 5mm and the rears are on 7mm so they have a long time left on them
