I'm new to the forums and have just posted a message on the 'best towcars' forum about whether there is any advantage or drawback between the zetec and LX models when it comes to towing. I'm now wondering if my query should have been in this forum instead????

Low profile tyres has nothing to do with a lowered suspension. But, having said that, low profile tyres are actually of benefit for towing. Because of their increased lateral stiffness, they contribute towards a more stable outfit.

Lowered suspension is generally much better for towing as it provides a more stable towcar. Some manufacturers, like BMW and Ford, don't homologate these models for towing however which can be an expensive purchasing mistake.

I tow with a Mondeo 2 ltr automatic Zetec and it is an excellent motor. Be careful of Ford fitted electrics though. Ours fold down from under the bumper and are one on top of the other rather than side by side. Real easy to ground them on speed humps.
