More fridge problems

Have Electrolux RM6270 and the problem is that it will not always fire up. I have taken it out and blew all pipes through and cleaned burner assy and today replaced the thermo coupling . It fired up first time and after turning it off and waiting a while tried again and this time it did not fire up afer releasing the knob. There is a good flame when holding in the knob but as i said it goes out again ,it seems the thermo is not speaking to the "valve"to release the gas if you know what i mean. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hello Robert,

I am sorry but I must urge caution.

Under the Gas regulations, anyone installing servicing or repairing even removeing a gas appliance must be competent to do so.

It follows that a competent person would understand the workings of flame failure devices as fitted to fridges, Your question suggests you do not understand them and as such you would not be deemed competent. They would also know what safety testing is also required.

Please refer the repair to a competent person.

I'm not certain with the 62xx series, but a common problem in the past has been the control knob bashing up against the fascia before the thermocouple is pushed in contact with the magnet.

To test is to set with knob to lighting position and then simply pull the knob off and try lighting it using the gas valve spindle.

If it works ok now then a small packer in the back of the knob will cure the problem

Hi Robert, the problem you have is quite common, you say you have replaced the thermocouple, have you got it in the correct position in the burner housing? the gap it fairly critical, if that's correct then the next place to look is at the connection at the gas valve, have you under or over tightend it? then there,s the thermo current breaker on that model, if that's failed it needs replacing, if that's ok then the other possibility is a breakdown of the solaniod in the gas valve itself, replace only non repairable. I will echo John's remarks and urge caution if your not "competant" you really need someone who knows how to do a correct leak test on the fridge considering you've had the burner off.

Hi Metz, its what i thought as well but in a work shop you go through several sequences to find out a fault it does not reveal itself unless it is broken so you try several things on that problem until resolved and for the indivdual thats expensive. Have noted JOHN L and your remarks on safety.
