However over the years my Safefill has more than paid for itself as break even point was about 4-5 years ago. It has been very cost effective for me and I have never had an issue refilling and unlikely there will be an issue in the foreseeable future.
I used Gaslow cylinders for many years when running various motorhomes and agree with you 100% in regards to the (possible) savings to be had. However.......
Those savings are totally reliant on firstly you being a heavy user of gas, and secondly being able to refill your refillable cylinder relatively easily.
On the first point I, and I suspect the majority (but by no means all) of
caravanners tend to use sites where they are able to use EHU for the majority of their requirements. We have a single induction hob which negates pretty much the need for a gas hob.
Secondly the availability of self filling LPG outlets is demonstrably reducing. In my area there is a single forecourt where that is possible, so it's (probably) not going to be too long before the costs of maintaining that system becomes uneconomic due to the reduction in LPG powered cars that were the mainstay of the forecourts LPG sales. Then, if I had a refillable cylinder, my next nearest supply point (a very small rural garage) would require a round trip of nearly 50 miles IF that is, they retain their LPG pump. For all of the foregoing reasons I decided not to invest in a refillable cylinder when I changed from motorhome to caravan.
I hope you are able to fill your safefill in the future, but I think you will end up having to travel further and further (and use increasingly expensive) petrol or diesel in order to do so.
If you currently own (outright) a refillable cylinder then yes it currently make excellent financial sense to continue using it. But If you consider the viability of buying a new refillable now, the economicsc do seem to be at least questionable.
I use so little gas it would take ne decades to recoup the cost of a refillable, and yes I do know the cost of electricity is going to remain high and I look forward to the day where it is metered on pitches. Those that use the most etc.
