Motor mover remote

I have not long had a motor mover (in fact only used it once) but a thought occured to me and that is the remote is left for possibly long periods (particularly over winter) with its battery in place.What happens if it goes flat or should it be removed or will that lose its 'memory'

It possibly depends upon what type it is, but I had a Carver unit (taken over by Truma) and from 2004 until I changed it last December I never needed to replace the battery. As I keep the caravan at home, I kept the remote in the house, so I suppose keeping it warm helped with its life. If you do have to change the battery I doubt that any memory will be lost, and even if it is, I wouldn't think it was difficult to "pair" again.

I have had two Powr-touch Movers, and have renewed batteries in the remote with no problems at all.

Not sure about other makes but Powr Touch movers are supplied with a cable - one end plugs into the remote and one into the control box.
Run the cable out through a suitably placed window and take the battery out of the remote (if it has any remaining charge the radio signal may confuse the hard wired signals). I've used this method once on my own van and a few times on other peoples when their remotes would not synchronise with the control box.
Good idea to know where the jack socket is on the main control unit before you need it - its a standadard 3.5mm jack socket as you will find on hifi and mp3 players etc.

Previously I've had Powrtouch but now have a Carver (Truma) and it would seem that the cable from remote to control box is a Powrtouch facility. My Carver remote doesn't have one. I keep the remote in the caravan drawer, parked alongside my house and the 9volt battery has lasted a long time.

It must be an age thing , but yes now I remember my mover also comes with a plug in cable if the battery should die.(must now try and remember where I put it

The official Powrtouch recomendation is to remove the battery if its not being used for long periods.However In 6 years I have not,& only had to replace the battery once
I suppose logic tells me that if the battery is unusedthen it could leak & then possily ruin the hand set.I'v lost several torches that way

I have a Reich which has a cable operation and remote. I just remove the old battery and put the new one in and the remote does not lose its pairing with the control unit in the caravan.

I can confirm that the carver does not have a dog lead and is remote only but is easy to pair if the sync is lost by turning on the handset, "red button twice" then with the mover control box activated press the reset button on the back of the control unit with a match after a few clicks is done.

Further thought - remote probably uses PP3 battery same as smoke alarm, so you can always use that one short term.
