Just got back from our first ever caravaning holiday, we loved it!

Stayed on a 5* adult only site near Kendal, weather was lousy but I couldn't believe how friendly / helpful people were.

The only problem we had was when I tried to get the caravan back on the drive tonight, started off ok but then one of the motor movers packed in, it's trying to turn but it's just making a noise like two gears that aren't in mesh (or like when the mrs is changing gear!)

I havent had time to strip it down yet but does this sound terminal to those in the know?

Mick.

Mick, what make of mover? is it still within warranty?

If it is still in warranty, do NOT attempt to touch it, call the company and arrange for an engineer to visit.

If it is out of warranty, then it sounds like the gearbox has gone, and a new unit will be required, probably complete with new motor, depending on make.

Sorry,

Should have said, it's a Carver unit not under warranty.

Would anybody know if parts are available?

The 'van is 10 years old, I'm assuming the mover is the same age.

Many thanks,

Mick.

Hi Mick. Sorry i can't help you, but Carver fitted the GB4 gearbox to a EMD PM63 motor. The "Carver mover 2" has a plastic cog that gives it a 50:1 ratio, One thing ! the GB4 box is handed so think carefully.

I am looking for a carver gearbox, i have had no luck in my search, If you find one please tell me how.

Thanks for the replys gents.

Bigbigtom you are quite right Sir, I've just stripped the gearbox down and suprise suprise, the nylon gear dosn't have any teeth left.

I'll get some gears cut at work over the weekend and should be as good as new.

Should anybody need a gear for a Carver mover I'll keep the pattern once I've drawn it up.

Mick.
