motor mover

hi there just ordered a new 2010 sterling emertyst twin wheeler .but they only putting a single mover on it . they said it will work ok but wont turn as well as a twin ..mover any one got a single on theres and is it any good .at turning etc,reich is the make im haveing.

Hello Jamie,

The Sale of Goods Act (SoGA) is very much on your side. make it clear to the dealer in writing the job you want the mover to do. That becomes the specification for the supply and fitting of the mover. Simply if it fails to meet the specification the dealer has failed and must either offer your money back or supply one that does do the job.

Turning a twin axle caravan is always very difficult, it needs a large amount of force to cause at least two tyres to scrub, and it will never turn on a sixpence. That is one of the main reasons why mover manufacturers produce units designed specifically for TA's. They need to be tougher and produce much more torque from the motors and gear boxes.

So if Reich do not specify that the mover will work on Twin axle caravans (TA), the dealer is in breach of SoGA by fitting it to a TA.

I have had experience with a van of similar weight and size to yours, fitted with a two motor mover. ie drives only forward wheels.

It was an absolute pig to manoeuvre, next to useless.

Do not accept anything less than a mover system, designed specifically for TA (Twin Axle) use and also importantly specified for the max all up weight of your van. It should have four motors, driving all four wheels.

Although a TA mover is expensive, fitting a Single Axle mover will, in my opinion be a waste of money.

I have the Powrtouch Twin on my Wyoming. The two motors drive the front wheels only. It is rated upto 1700kgs and does what it says. Do not expect SA performance.

It works very well indeed . Tight turns do not happen, but you learn to use it within its limitations.It works on a "pulsing" basis when turning.

I considered a 4x4 but quite honestly for all the extra cost , replumbing, moving the spare wheel and losing the jacking points plus extra weight stuck with the twin.

Collected my 2010 coachman twin axle just after easter, Dealer didn't even offer the single option because of the weight of the van. The double unit still needs plenty of time to manouver so would I imagine be painfully slow with the single unit. I have stuck to powrtouch though as the previous one fitted to my last 3 single axles was super. The only thing with the mover is I wish i had had the electric engagement, as the two opposite rollers are deployed at once (from either side) it is harder to engage as an after thought it is much more expensive than being specified at the time of fitting so for now I will extend the handle.
