motorway parking

we live on anglesey, and when we go off we have always stopped at chester services on the m56.for some reason the services has closed off and barricaded the area where caravans are supposed to park, when we were last there on the 24 june we saw 4 units try and pull on,but had to leave again as they could not park,i just want to let people know so they can avoid this service area, and hope that the people who run the service station get their act together and reopen it,or risk losing valuable custom,as it was very popular with caravanners

I can understand why motorway service areas might do this. Many caravanners (I am guilty too) pull in for a break and sit in the van having coffee from a flask and sandwiches from the fridge as I resent the high cost and poor quality of the food in many service areas. Fuel is generally the only thing I buy when I stop.

You are lucky, having retired I cannot afford motorway service price for fuel. Mind you I do exactly what you said regarding refreshments as also will not pay the rediculous prices they charge -

The caravan parking area was open the first bank holiday in May, as we had arrange to meet friends there on the way down to Wales. But there was some travelling people parked up, looking as though they had set up a camp from the amount of rubbish round the area. There was even a bloke stripped down to his underwear having a bath (the old tin type) in the middle of the parking area, so needless to ay we never left our vans unnattended. Maybe it is just coincedence, or maybe they created such a problem that they choose to close the parking area to us all??

Methinks it might have been a while since you checked the prices , couple of weeks ago a pot of tea and a cup of coffee came to well over a fiver at Stansted services!!!
Fair comment Tony it was about two maybe three years ago at Exeter services - apologies if I am not up to date on prices. However recently diesel at Strentcham services on M5 was 95.9p per litre - only had enough to get me home to Bridgend. Was not going to fill up by any means.
