We have been caravaning now for about 3 years and have really enjoyed it so far. Our first Caravan is a bit long in the tooth (Elddis Hurricane 2000 GTX '96)and we are looking for a new one.
The pre-requisites for the new caravan are:
-2 fixed single beds- We want to escape the necessity of having to build our bed every night, and both of us being quite tall the fixed double beds are not big enough.
- End bathroom with walk in shower
I won't list all the standard things like H&C water, Blown air heating etc as they are pretty much standard these days.
Anyway I have come to the conclusion that the only way to get what we want is to go twin axle (unless anybody has any other suggestions). The Caravan that ticks the boxes for us is a '96/'97 Sterling Elite Overlander which is 26" 2' (Apparently they only made this 2 single bed model in these years).
My questions about Twin axles are:
1- Being 26" long am I likely to have problems with campsite pitches and particularly Caravan Club CL sites?
2- Are ferry costs for this longer caravan any more expensive?
I also considered a Hymer single axle tourer but did not like the WC (too small and right next to the lounge so not very private if you have visitors). I also found the smaller windows in the Hymer vans mode the inside a little gloomy.
