Multimo on roof

Hi

I have a multimo satellite dish on order and want advice on putting it on the caravan roof without blowing away. I like the idea of the magnet but the roof is ali so was wondering about sticking either a small section of steel plate to the roof or another multimo magnet. What do you think ? Any ideas ?

Thanks Simon

Hello, I have an Arcon Sweety dish, very similar to a Multimo, and used to put it on my roof with a sucker attachment, but always worried that it would damage my roof during high winds, so now have it attached to a tripod stand. it's so much easier to set up than when it was on the roof, and no problems during windy conditions. I would suggest however that you order a decent satellite finder I have a Televes T7301 it will save you alot of hassle and possible divorce!!

I use one of these

Maxview - B2030 - Omnisat Digital Satellite Compass

Its so easy to use !

( just point & go )

I also use it when we just use the status 530/10

with this web site you put the post code in & it then tells you what direction the TV mast's are

so i just stand in the van point the compass & twist the aerial to that direction & go

It also tells you if the is a booster station nearby & if it is vertical or horizontal

If you want to you the magnetic mount then you need to Sikaflex(glue) a metal plate on the van roof

Some people use suckers like glaziers use

Home Bargains if you have one in your area are doing the invalid handles that have 2 strong suckers similsr to the glaziers type and they are

I did precisely this and lost my Multimo in high winds.

I used a strip of thin metal with adhesive which I fixed permanently to the roof (still there). The Multimo had it's standard magnetic mount (I think it's a neodynium magnet), it certainly appeared well fixed.

I used this on several occasions but it failed in Pentewan Sands (Cornwall) in 2007 when it simply blew off the roof and badly dented the dish.

I've used a separate satellite stand ever since.

I have this tripod as a back up

My friend uses the plastic body inverted so that he clamps the Multimo onto it

He then has a metal plae Sikaflexed onto the roof

The plate is like a top hat with a narrow raised centre pole and this is then clamped into the Winegard body instead of the sat dish pole

Was the magnet still stuck to the roof or the satelitte dish when it came off ??

I use a speaker tripod from maplins 15 quid and a dog ground screw/or large Re bar peg and an old bit of storm strap to tie it down. never moved in up to 75 mph

I use the tripod pictured above and it works great has a built in compass and Deg in graduations of the compass on the base so setting up is simple.

The magnet was still on the satellite dish. I think the magnet was a rare Earth type, so it was powerful but obviously not powerful enough.
