Tim, that brings back lovely memories of our 2008 tour. We stayed on Camping Navarre, which, as you said is inside the walls. It is actually on the battlements, so the view is magnificent. The warden has excellent English too. Must agree, though, the little town is a star.
With regard to Chateau Grandspette, we've looked a t that site, but dismissed it due to its physical size ( too big for us country yokels!), and cost. Just down the road a couple of kliks is Camping le Chaumier, a small 25 van family run site with bar, restaurant and pool for only €19. (2011 price) Le Chaumier has a big advantage for dog owners, as le Patron's wife is receptionist at the local vet, so can make all the arrangements for the dogs to get back home.
Great blog, thanks for posting.

I'm glad you enjoyed my journal Emmerson. i enjoyed writing it brings back happy memorie for me too.
We stayed at La Chaumiere last summer but we weren't too impressed particularly withthe attitude of Guy the owner who we found rude and unhelpful. We did take advantage of the connection with the vet in St Omer to take our dog Max but unfortunately we had to have him put down in January - he was an 18 year old border collie.
Best wishes

Sorry Emmerson but we found Guy rude and unhelpful when we stayed for several days at the beginning and end of our hols - 6 weeks apart. If you look at the reviews on ukcampsite.co.uk you will find others who have had similar problems.
We will NOT be returning to that site I'm afraid.
Tim
