I have just booked a few days at the end of Sept at the CC site Bransgore the only way to get hard standing was to book a servicd pitch @£22.85 per night (very expensive for Sept) so I might as well make use of the facilities but how long will I need a waste pipe or fresh water hose?????

We have just booked a week at Beverley in Torbay at the end of Sept. We used the tokens out of the Sun for £1.00 per night for basic pitch + £6.00 per night to upgrade to a hard standing with EHU

Hi Plotter.
just to be sure when did the same as you are doing I bought a length of food grade hose to the length of the caravan this way you should have enough to do the job.
If you take in the length of draw bar you wont be far out and of course you will be covered the if supply is not quite behind your van.

the kit for fresh water is about 7 mtrs you may not need it all the waste depends on van if its at back (eldiss) the drain is mostley at backbut some sites have waste at side. I ve got anough tpipe to go from e side to back if you need less cut it and get a joiner so you can use it if need be all cornners coverd

These are the cheaper ones but I have got the flat hose that is 7.5m long and at £25.00 approx a bit more expensive.

And Finally as Forest said some of this and a few joiners to make up differant lenghts, I got 5.0m and cut to various bits.

Rather than use the normal caravan type convoluted pipe I use rigid poly pipe as used in domestic installations. by carrying 2 x 2m lengths and 2 x 1m lengths plus a few assorted connectors I can get a good run for the waste water without the pipe sagging and trapping the water. The solid pipe also keeps the pipe close to the caravan and is less likely to get trod on. For the fresh water I have 15m and 7m hoses which can be used on there own or joined with a simple connector. As to connection to the caravan for fresh water I use the Truma system most of the time but thre are a couple of sites I go to where the water flow rate is a bit unreliable (especially when the 'little darlings' turn my supply tap off when I am in the middle of a shower...) and on those sites I simply unclip the Truma adaptor and pressure regulator and use a float valve on the Aquaroll. w

Hi Graham, I use to use this system (if it's the one you connect from tap to van with the built in regulator), and it seemed that the flow pressure was very low compared to the aquaroll float system and it did'nt matter which site I was on, I learnt on here it was due to the regulator doing its job properly, hence thats why I now use the float all the time and have no problems with the pressure.
It was also stated on here although I did'nt experience it, that if the regulator was to fail you would have full mains pressure in the van which could ultimatly blow apart some of he internal joints on the pipework and could flood the van. I think if I remember correctly Damien (mod) has actually repaired some vans where this has happened.

I use an extendable waste hose. It is very compact, rolls up into a small bag when not in use. It is much cheaper than a normal caravan hose and fits a standard caravan connector.

Actually we are going away on the 22nd Sept and we are paying £23 per night for a service hardstanding pitch we thought this was quite reasonable but we moved on to a Derby on the 29th Sept and it costing us only £18 per night for the same , I normally take 7 metres of waste pipe with me and about the same for the hose pipe or ask what you need at the site then you have all your bets cover..

Thanks for that Kev. I've used the Truma system for ages and never had a problem with it except as noted above and that has been on sites with water pressure so low that it is possible boil a kettle of water, make a pot of tea, and then drink it in less time than it takes for the aquaroll to fill. I have heard stories about the possibility of the pressure reducer failing and I am currently trying to design a system similar to the 'g valve' that cars used to use to control brake balance. Effectively what it should do if the pressure reducer fails is to force a ball bearing into a valve seat and thereby shutting off the flow until it is reduced back to a preset amount.. The idea is to mount it between the pressure reducer and the water inlet. Sounds simple but having it adjustable and reliable is another matter and I'm not the worlds greatest design engineer! I originally started to design a one shot system based on a latex membrane that would bulge with the increase water pressure and make contact with a blade that would cause it to split and dump the water through a relief outlet. The problem with that was I have no confidence in the pressure tolerances in the reducers and the materials I was using (think condoms lol). Someday one of my crackpot ideas will come to fruition but probably when I am long gone....

Kev, I wish someone would copy the idea as it would save me doing the bits I hate such as paperwork and contracts! There is more to life than making money out of an idea, but watching programmes like Dragons Den and Apprentice you would not think it.
