National Caravan Council

The short answer is no!

There is no requirement under law for a trader to be affiliated,

But it is unlikely that any of the major caravan manufacturers will trade with a non NCC affiliated business. - so it is unlikely that you will find an unaffiliated dealer of any long standing.

Caravans themselves don't have to be NCC approved - any caravan with a door on the right can't get approval anyway, ie imported caravans aren't NCC approved. All caravans are built to EN1645 and other EN standards, regardless of where they're built.

The NCC is simply the trade body for businesses involved with UK caravanning. The CC and C&CC are members as major site operators, not to represent the interests of their members.

They are not universally applauded πŸ˜‰

From another site;

"the most useless, toothless, impotent gaggle of fat old spongers to be found outside Westminster"

Sorry to burst your bubble but I have a Hymer - German imported, door on "wrong side" It IS NCC approved as too are all Hymers and "wrong sided door caravans" that you may know. Please get your facts right.

Due to the problem I've had recently with Lunar's warranty, I hoped that National Caravan Council may have been able to assist as they are supporting the makers warranty by proudly showing their seal of approval under the explanation of the companies "Extended Peace of Mind Warranty" in Lunars Brochure.

When I spoke to one of NCC's Customer Services representative, and explained the situation, he replied that they don't read all the warranty terms and conditions! and that there was nothing they were willing to do... so really - The NCC's seal of approval looks good and fooled me, but I feel they are working for manufacturers and definitely not the consumer.

In answer to your query, I wouldn't worry whether a trader is affiliated to NCC, from recent experience, if you had a problem, they would probably advise you to go to contact 'Consumer Advice'.

Hope this helps

Mark

in my experience manufacturers dont care if your an NCC member or not. infact only about 5% of dealers are members. the main reason for this is the cost and the fact that other than saying your a member, there are no other real benefits.

The NCC is a body that represents the industry in other words the manufacturer alway have been and always will be they have never to my knowledge ever pretended otherwise.
