NCP Charges: A moan by yours truly.

I have this morning picked up my son and his partner from Birmingham Airport. Their flight from Spain was due in at 11:25, so I checked the boards before I left home on the internet and they said N/A across the entire flights so this was of little help…..urm think about this later on!

I got to by the airport at about 11:20 and parked up. Given that Ryan Air are usually early (so they can play their first post the post tune) I headed to the car park at about 11:30, took my ticket and went to arrivals. It was early and they came through at about twenty to. They went for a wee, we went back to the car, got in and drove to the pay here, the one on the way out, this was out of order so I had to repark and walk to another pay here metre…..urm think about this latter on.

This is usually a regular pick up as we have a house in Spain, Although I have to say I have not done this run for quite a few months. I noticed that they had new machines and that they were capable of taking credit cards – now I now why! The machine said that I had stayed for 21min and then asked for £7.

I feel that I was manipulated in to staying longer so that I have to pay more! But a pound for every 3 min is robbery, I cannot see any justification in this level of charge. That’s equivalent to £20/hr.

2 or 3 quid, Ok! But £7, Just think what £7 could buy? That the same as 1 hr at min wage. At Reus Spain for 4 hrs is 3 Euro’s, Last time I went to Barcelona I moaned at 5 Euro’s for 3 hours. But £7 for 21min!

We have already formulated a plan (so as a good many more I bet) That is park up away from the airport, wait for a phone call then go in and follow the road round, stop pick them up and go. The only thing that I can see a jobsworth backed up by a copper with a gun saying “you can’t stop there” or receiving a fixed penalty through the post! Just keep paying the rich man because he’s got you by the ^%$^%$.

Had similar experience at Luton, we were a bit longer than you, and got charged £8. What peeved me was it wasn't even a proper carpark, but a bit of rough ground. Proves that we motorists are cash cows!!!

It costs a pound just to drive through the car park at Luton Airport, you have to as there is no stopping any where at all and there is no other way out of the airport.

If it is a Parking Chareg Notice it can be safely ignored, but if it is a Penalty Charge Notice you will have to pay. I am not sure if NCP monitors on behalf of the local council or not. If not, then no policeman can issue you a ticket as it is private ground.
