I fear thes may be 2 stupid questions but I am going to ask them

anyway.

I have a Sterling Europa 530 with the NE190 control panel.

If I am hooked up to the mains with the charger on, do the 12v items work from the battery or from an inverter.

If I want the battery to be charged do I need to press the battery button on the panel and get this to light or does the charger charge the battery anyway.

Thanks

Hi John,

When on hook-up, 230V is supplied to charger / transformer, which then powers all 12V in the caravan. If you are on leisure battery only, then the charger is not powered, and therefore, all 12V power comes only from the leisure battery.

Providing you are on mains, the charger is powered, and will always charger the leisure battery, unless you have selected the "car" symbol, in which case the charger will charge the tow car engine battery.

I hope that helps.

Ash,

Thanks very much for replying to my post.

Just to clarify, if I am on hook up but have not selected the leisure battery symbol on the controller ie the only light lit on the controller is the 'plug' symbol, will the leisure battery still charge? In other words do I need to select the leisure battery symbol to get the battery to charge when on hook up?

Also does it do any harm to leave the leisure battery on charge all the time when you are on hook up?

Many thanks for your help.

John

Are you right here Ash?

I'm sure the van charger doesn't charge the car battery.

But you can run the van on the car battery.

Hi John & Peter,

To answer your questions:

Peter : On the NE190 panel, you have the option of selecting either the tow car battery or leisure battery. This activates a relay which puts that battery in circuit. That means that you are using power from that source, but also (if on hook-up), diverts the charger power to that battery. So yes, by selecting the tow car battery, with the charger on and on hook-up, you can charge the tow car battery.

John: As above, you must have the leisure battery in circuit to charge it, so yes, the leisure battery LED must be lit.

You will not do the battery any harm by leaving it on charge, the charger is "smart", and will reduce the output voltage when the battery is fully charger, so that it only trickle charges.

I hope that helps.

Ash
