Neath September Fair

Anybody going to the fair this weekend? The CC have a site at Gnoll Grounds in Neath - 5 minute walk into town. The main fair is in the railway car park, however all the streets in the town centre are closed and market traders are busy selling their wares. Generally weather permitting is a good night - especially Friday eveneing which is generally considered "fair night".

Fair way to travel for a local paper report. I worked in Ponty for quite a few years for the former Taff Ely Council and enjoyed every minute of it. It was a pleasure to go to work. Worked in the offices in Upper Church Street, Mill Street - above Sweaty Betty's and across the road next to the club and in Lower Church Street over the Co-op.

Not been to Neath for many many years mainly cos the last time I thought "what a place, not coming here again". Has it regenerated? Couldn't possibly have got worse!

Neath has now become a nice market town once again - it did go down hill to rock bottom in the 1970s but has now regained its old market town characture.

Hi colin, Neath has regenerated along with an army of traffic wardens who seem to pop up from behind the trash bins whenever you park your car anywhere in the town centre. Apart from Milland Rd, carpark and the multi story by the magistrates court thats it. "BEWARE" anybody going to Neath.

Regards

Graham (Ponty)

PS, With Milland Rd closed for carparking due to the fair, the traffic wardens will be out in force BEWARE.

Graham as a retired employee of Neath College I take advantage of the college car park. If that is locked there is generally plenty of on street parking at Banana Island on the Neath Abbey road just before Day's Garage. Only a short walk over the bridge into town by Safeways's store. The other alternative is by the new Halfords store where there is off street parking without the same time constraints as with Tesco. This area has many stores and therefore is not policed the same.

The traffic wardens are not employed by the police but by a private company on cantract to the council. I had a run in on one occassion with one using a blue badge for my mother in law. As I was parked on an upper floor she could not manage to walk up to the car (lift out of order) so I told her to wait at the ground floor with my wife and the shopping and I would pick them up there. There he was waiting close to my car and when he saw me on my own he thought he had me. I told him my M-I-L was waiting downstairs as she could not manage the ramps and the lift was u/s he did not believe me so I offered for him to ride down with me to meet the out law. Eventually he agreed to let me off but without a lecture and an argument where I told him that I would not use the badge without her present - I was not that sort of chap.
