Just been to the show today and to be honest it was a waste of £28 (plus food and fuel).

If you are in the market for a new motorhome or caravan there was what looked like some very tempting deals , good chunks of money (£000s) off with added extras to be had from most dealers.

However if you are after accessories forget it , there were probably less than a dozen worth while retailers (towsure , riversway and fiamma being the main ones) with just a smattering of smaller retailers.

I ceretainly wont be going to this show again in a hurry , I hope the Boat and Caravan show in February is better

Hi Hamer

I couldn't honestly tell you as we didn't have cause to browse their stand. Although it did look like they had 'show offers' as it were like most of the exhibitors.

Seems like the industry is trying to coax money from us punters but I dont think there's much to be saved , if you take into account the cost to go etc , unless you intend spending some serious money.

Dont get me wrong the new vans and MHs were packed to the rafters but as we have only just purchased a new van that didn't interest us.

We really wanted to buy accessories / clothes and see what new innovative gadgets and gizmos there were. On that side of things it was disappointing.

Although I think I've decided on the Calor lite gas bottles , when my current bottles run out , and a new Isabella awning next year , when my company share save matures - provided they're actually worth more than bottle tops!!!!

I've been to the NEC today as well, and I agree that it was very disappointing overall.

The accessories area seems to get smaller each year to me.

As for the new caravans - not impressed! This goes for the majority of them.

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so to speak, but unless you want a fixed bed, 'L' shaped lounge, microwave oven and interior lights that would be more at home in a Theatre dressing room, I dont think the 2009 ranges will be for you (I dont desire any of these things, though no doubt some do).

I went with the intention of getting 'a price' on my 2007 VIP 520/4, but I never saw anything that I would swap it for. It would have been nice to look inside the Bailey 'van that had been built to a family's specification, but we never got nearer than the hoardings and 'minders' around it!

Hi RogerP

In the past I have visited the G Mex Manchester, (never again) SECC earlier this year (not worth it for the distance and costs) and the Lawns a few weeks ago (up to your eyes in mud)The only show I have always enjoyed is the February NEC boat and caravan show, and hopefully I will be going again in Feb

Hi Roger

That's a shame. I've always enjoyed all the little side stands with their varied products.

Did you get to see anyone of importance on PC's stand, eg Nigel Donnelly???

Cheers

Hi

I'm planning on buying a Bailey Carolina there on Sunday (believe Bailry are going increase prices on Monday).

Any idea of what we can expect in terms of discount, best price I have so far is 16k inc delivery?

I visited on Tuesday. I mainly went to see the motorhomes as this is the one place where I can see all the makes at the same time. So, for us it was a good trip, although I did not buy one. I did not visit the caravan section as I already have one, and if I did change, it would probably be to a motorhome. But as the 'readies' are in short supply I just went 'browsing'.

The one advantage of Tuesday was that it was Day 1, and the crowds were quite small, so we could see inside any, and every vehicle we wished at leisure. We even peeked inside the Concord models but at a

Hi just got back from NEC great if you want a motorhome but i agree the accessories were no where to be seen other than the ones already mentioned. Cant work it out as most people love his part and you always buy something even if you dont want it. hope they get their fingers out for the next one or no more visits from me

Went to the show yesterday and felt the accessories side of it was very poor and fine if you had plenty of money for a motorhome.

The car parking and food facilities were very good, much better than Earls Court.

We went on Friday with the intention of buying/ PXing our Abbey Freestyle. As it is less than 2 years old at the moment we went with a few questions wanting to get sorted so for next year, feb or march time, we could have delivery of a new van. The rep from Lowdhams reccomended we keep it another year and didn't seem interested in us changing vans! He admitted it was a bad time and sales were slower than they were used to. So I have to put it down to the fact they didn't want a van which was so close to a new van and with quite a high value going into stock. It seems they want customers with older vans of lower value which will allow them to make the most of the profit from a new van sale. We will see if we can do a PX without loosing too much but it seems the show had the same story with all new van sales. One couple were told to sell privatly and then come and buy a new van as they were not interested in selling a van with such a high value! So it must have been quite a high spec van anyway.

The one thing which my wife was very dissapointed with and has now crossed off her list was the new 2009 Baileys due to a fridge which has some stupid salad tray with opening lid. If the lid is used the shelf above is so close to the top shelf you cannot even put your hand to the back of the shelf! So any van with the Dometic fridge got taken off her list! So now we have narrowed it down to another Lowdhams special or possibly a new Coachman Amara. So if we do find a decent PX deal it may have been worth the visit if we don't get a deal then as everyone else pointed out the accessories were a poor, Luckily we have 99% of the stuff we want or need.........

We went to the show yesterday and what a disappointment. There were 3 halls of motorhomes - a bit excessive compared to the 2 for caravans.

The accessories were confined to the back end of hall 11 with very little choice. The usual pack 'em in and high scenario with nothing new or innovative.

We weren't looking at caravans as we have a 4 month old Coachman Festival but it is always good to look. Not sure on the new Amara's with the handleless lockers like the Baileys.

The new Bailey GT** series was attracting good crowds as you would expect and the stand was very busy.
