I have recently brought my first caravan, a new Bailey GT60 520/4 and when I collected the caravan I did not receive the best of handovers in regard what each element of the equipment does. I have read the guide which came with the caravan, however, I am unsure as to the Water Pump operation. I have already had to replace one pump because it just died on me, and I am concerned that I have an issue with the replacement. On every occasion so far, I have filled my external water container connected the pump and then submersed the pump in the container, once I switch on the pump at the mains I then open the taps until I get a constant flow. For approx 2 hrs the pump switches on and off every 3/4 min's. After 2 hrs the pump then runs constantly, I have tried to adjust the pressure switch but it make no difference the pump continues to run all the time. I have inquired with other caravanners and there's do not run constantly. Whilst I can get used to the constant pump noise because I am not sure what the pump is supposed to run like ( intermittent or constant) I turn the main switch off when I leave the caravan for any time or when we go to bed. Can anyone help me on this subject.

Hello Peter, I have a similar problem with my Lunar, although not quite so bad. It is just not possible to adjust the pressure switch to get the pump to run properly. I am now in the process of fitting a Whale Surge Damper in the system and am hopeful that may effect a cure; when its done I'll post again and let you know the result. The damper costs about twenty pounds sterling (ebay) but fitting it into the bed locker is a bit tricky as it has to be mounted vertically and is about 9 inches long plus pipework. Good luck!!!

Hi Peter

It sounds that you have a suspect pressure switch. The pump should not run continuously. When you open a tap the pump should run whilst it is open then when you close the tap the pump will probably run for a few seconds whilst the system is pressurised then switch off. You may here it run occasionally, inbetween times, because the water system will lose its pressure and the pump will repressurise.

If, as you say, it is a new caravan then your dealer should sort it out for you.

The reported fault suggests to me there is a water leak on the system.

Obviously check all the joints you can, but there is another possibility. The pressure switch has a non return valve fitted. This is essential as it has to 'lock' the pressure in the system.

If the NRV is faulty, then as soon as the pump stops the water pressure will begin to be released back down the cold water feed inlet. You wont see this because it is inside the pipes.

As its a new caravan, your dealer should sort it out.
