New Battery Choice

My Platinum Battery is on its last legs after 8 years and 3 months use a year- not bad.
So now I have to select a new battery for my 2018 Coachman. Some of the selection is dictated by battery box size and it is looking like another Platinum or a Leoch or an Exide - all Class A.

Any comments welcome.

Just got a new Uni Sev S4 which takes a low profile battery in the floor. The dealer offered me a Platinum 100Ah for £105 or I could have a Varta Professional 90Ah for £119.
Guess which one I bought?

Simple answer to that one: Varta is a known and very well and long established battery maker with a name to live up to that makes all sorts of batteries for the automotive, communications, standby supply industries etc etc..

Who makes Platinum? Is it a badged battery by another maker? Is it actually a proper leisure battery or is it just a labelled car battery?

I rest my case.

I have a standard 100 ah leisure battery and a new cat A one. The latter cost nearly £200!! Haven’t noticed any difference except to my bank balance. The cat a is lower and wider which means cables go on top ok but it’s very tight in the box. Won’t bother with the posh one again.

For me, "battery" is always mispelt - it should be "Varta" !

If they are good enough for submariners then they’ll do for the caravan.

In my days of Apprenticeship they were Accumalators?

When I was an apprentice an accumulator was something I paid the local bookies runner to put on some nags to eke out my low wages in order to keep the Triton on the road.

Despite what I was told I saved money and bought a Cat C battery. Nearly four years on it still moves the caravan when needed so I seem to have come out OK. The dealer did mark the receipt as being used with a mover so no come back there if it went wrong though.
