New battery

Morning all bit of advice needed just bought a new banner 110amp battery from an online shop but to my surprise they sent me two of the same type phoned them up and they said it was a mistake on there part and to keep the other one as it would cost a lot to have it picked up again so what i was wondering is what is the shelf life of a new battery just left in the shed not used will keep it as a spare but batterys seem to last in excess of 5 years when on the van we hardly ever use EHU as we rally most weekends all year round

Firstly, if its a leisure battery you will need to keep it charged permanently and I would youggest a smart charger that can recondition. If you let a leisure batery go completely flat there are real issues getting it back. So, if you think its going to last on the van for 5 years, how much electricity are you going to use, plus the cost of a smart charger.

Personally I would Ebay it. If you sell it, and have to buy another in 5 years, you arent going to be any worse off.

I have never heard of there being much difference in storage life of an unused battery against one regularly used. So you could find that your reserve battery is near the end of its life when it come to change over some years down the line.

I agree, sell it. Try local, to save on transport cost.

OP, you said that you are mostly off grid and rarely use EHU, normally I would carry the spare battery in the car as in winter one cannot rely at all on solar panels (sometimes in the summertime also).

But I recall you recently purchased a generator, your call, a good problem to have 😉.

No good putting it on eBay unless you mark it for collection in person - otherwise you need to use a specialist carrier and they are expensive.

Why not alternater the batteries, and when you need them they are ready to go. only went off EHU once, but the way we use power, our battery lasted ok 110 amphere,. I WILL try a non ehu but reallly its not for us. Going for FSP , near a pub.
