New car advice please.

I would appreciate any advice or comments that would help me make my mind up.

I'm thinking of changing cars, and I am thinking of C Class or E Class estate, automatic, probably a diesel and 3 to 5 years old.

EDIT: Sorry, should have said I will be towing a Bailey Pegasus Ancona 6 Berth.

Quite right Prof, I will research and provide specs when I have firmed up a decision(s) on car options.

Changing my mind already , looked at an E Class estate today, my boat didn't float

Anseo, as I am not a fan of Mercs as they are always way a head of modern Cars, and therefore I normally drive a car that requites a human to control it.
, but is that not a portrail of a two year old trumpeter Haggie, from the Toblemoraie area , probably a female, unfortunatley I cannot see the plumage. The yearliings, as i am sure you know, have a thicker plumage due to not roamiming far from the nesting sites. I would love to see further pictures if possible.

If you are looking at the C class it might depend on exactly which version you are looking at as there are a lot of different versions. It is a very nice car and most versions should be a decent match but I would check whatever you are looking at on a matching service.

By all means use a matching web site but don't believe their output's, becasue their databases contain errors, and unless you know where those errors are, you cannot trust their computations.

In reality you don't need a web site to work it out. Its simple maths. Towing ratio is caravan MTPLM divided by the ULW of the car, and performance can be gauged from the power and torque figures.

Get the weight & engine specifications for your car and caravan and the rest isn't rocket science.

I tend to agree that the matching services are not totally correct, but most are pretty good, and they are a good starting point for beginners, although I do prefer to do my own research. I did feel here that given the very wide variation possible in C Class cars the OP might be as well to check there for this query though.

I am particularly hard on matching sites and services, becasue they know the databases they use have errors and omissions, but do they warn you? Do they also warn you that if they get it wrong, and as driver you are caught out, the the driver is always held resposnible, as ultimately it is teh drivers responsibility to ensure the vehicle they drive is legal and roadworthy. In some cases where it is a commercial vehicle the company can also be found liable.

But as I suggested previously, the mathematics are not complex, and by the time you have obtained teh accurate figure from teh vehicle documentation, and then checked teh web sites own data, you could have competed teh essential matching calculations, and have certainty rather than the uncertanty.

To be fair though, the majority of information in teh websites data bases will be fine, But as a user you have no way of verifying it before you use it.
