New Car-Running in?

I have just taken delivery of new Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI 4X4. Skoda recommend not towing a trailer in the first 1000kms (620 miles)with a new car. However, I may not reach that figure ( will have probably have done about 500 miles) before I have to use the car to tow a small (550kgs) T@B caravan.

Anyone got any advice on the matter or been in similar dilemma?

Hello. Your trailer is reasonably light, and I don't think you will do any harm. I am presently running in a Golf Plus - 2 litre, 140 hp (maybe the same engine as yours) and I find the gearing is quite high. 60 mph in 6th gear and the revs are just on 1500. Great for the fuel consumption! I would suggest keeping the revs up and do not let the engine labour when towing, they don't like it. In my case I would stay out of 5th and 6th gears if I was towing, until I have done a couple of thousand miles. I know running in is a pain, however, it pays dividends in the long run. Regards. Hi Many thanks. Yes same engine. Having posted similar query on Skoda BRISKODA website seems its more about brakes and tyres bedding in when towing than engine.
