I have booked a pitch for the fore-mentioned CC site in September. Has anyone any comments on the site and any snippets of places to visit in the area?

A while since we've been but a very nice site. Very quiet and off the beaten track.

Ideal place for doing not very much!

Iv'e never been, but what iv'e been told from those who have been, is that it is very isolated and an ideal place to go to chill out.

Hi Mike,

We spent two weeks there in July, and loved it so much we stayed on for three extra days (would have stayed more, but had to go back to work). We had the most wonderful time there - it has all the usual high standards of Caravan Club site (hot showers, veg prep, laundry etc all spotless), games room, reception which sells basics, but the best thing of all is the fantastic location. Its a stunning location, right on a beautiful beach, in a remote and beautiful part of Scotland. The actual site is one of the nicest we have stayed on - very spacious pitches, and nicely landscaped so you can choose to be very secluded, surrounded by natural gorse and bracken hedging, or go along the front, overlooking the bay. My advice is to pull over when you have signed in, and walk about a bit, before you decide where to pitch up.

The wardens, Roger and Jen, were lovely: friendly and very helpful. Nearest town is Stranraer, about 20 min drive away (got a Tesco and Morrisons - free parking in the MOrrisons). There is a small shop in Drummore (about 4 miles away) - a lovely village, very unpspoilt, nice cafes. Take your time and go down to the front - there are free parking and picnic places/access to the beach.

Also - wildlife reserve - Mull of Galloway (about 6 miles)

Botanic Gardens

Port Logan - about 3 miles (unspoilt tiny fishing port - used for filming '2000 Acres of Sky) - again free parking, lovely big beach when tide out.

Port Patrick - more touristy, but very pretty.

You can park almost anywhere along the shore, and get out and walk - perfect for dogs and walkers!

We are already looking forward to returning (even though its a 10 hour drive for us), and wish we could go in September (sadly teaching means we have to go in main holidays only),

im very very very jealous we stayed there last august, and everything the previous caravanner says is true, it is one of the most peaceful sites we have stayed on, i actually sat looking out to sea for hours, its amazing if you want to do nothing, we will be taking the windsurfing boards next time though, as its so close to the beach, your practically on it, lovely beach walks, wildlife, and portpatrick is so picturesque i nearly bought a house there. we also went down to the tip of the peninsula, and to the lighthouse, where ou can see the isle of man on a clear day, and we did, bit of a dodgy road, but worth it,hope you enjoy it, im now off to the cc web page to see if i can book it. regards ED
