Hi all,
As ex caravaners, (some 10 yrs ago) we've got our first motorhome on order, due to take delivery in early January. We love to holiday in France and are planning a trip with the new van next May/June. We're hoping to try out the "Aires" and tour around a bit.
Any tips???

Steve

Hi Steve, welcome to the Forum (& the world of motorhoming). I've upgraded you so you don't have to copy the squiggly letters in future.
"Aires" is a big subject; tell us what you already know, and we'll do our best to fill in the gaps. But I certainly agree that France is the place to, to get the best from your "camping-car" (as they call it over there)!

Hi Tony, thanks for the upgrade. We've camped and caravaned in France over the years but always on commercial sites. The Motorhome should give us more freedom to tour and I have a mate who has used the aires quite a bit. Brew and a catch up imminent :) I've also been advised to get the "All the Aires" book. I believe a new edition is due out soon?

Hi Steve and welcome. I don't know about a new edition but it would be worth dropping Vicarious Books a line to ask them

France Passion is also worth trying, especially if you like a drop of something chilled at the end of a days drive...

You will find a GPS invaluable here in France. In particular you will be able to find the nearest 'Aire' while you are travelling using the POI's offered FREE by I-Camping-cars or Camping-car info's both sites are in French but fairly self explanitory. You should always check that in addition to services (Fresh water and waste disposal) there is also parking available.
The Guide from 'Le Monde du Camping-car' is far more extensive than any UK produced guide
If you lust after a site then you might be interested in the French 'Municipal sites? But as a seasoned caravanner you are probably well aware of these.
