Hi all I'm new to the caravaning Infact that new I haven't got one yet And this is why i'm on here I have been round a few dealers looking at the various layouts available(intend to buy privately though to save money)

I intend to find a seasonal pitch(any help with that in the Tywyn/Aberdovey area would be greatly appreciated)as i'm not keen on touring for the foreseable future.Although the van will be mainly used by 3 people I like the 6 berth ones with fixed bunks As it would seem to be a lot less bother making bed for my 5 yr old Is this a waste of cash and would a 4 berth be as good

Also apart from looking out for damp are there any other major things I need to be aware of I have in the region of 3/4K to spend

Hello Steve

Can I recommend that when buy a van privately that you check that the vin plate is attached to the van usually just below the door on the outside and also one on the A frame chances are its not stolen but it could be check the chassi number is the same as on the plate also check the numbers on the windows havn`t been removed, also buy it from there home and get any paperwork that goes with it service documents etc.

When you inspect the inside of van remove all the cushions and look for any damp, tap all the walls top to bottom anything that sounds soft then do not buy,if its all dry then make up the beds this will give an idea of what room you have left to move in,and if the seller is generous enough they usually include all the extras in with the price.

Enjoy your caravanning.

Regards

Roy

Hi Steve

Roy has given you very sound advice.I would only add if you know someone that has a caravan take them with you to view it. It's a buyers market so don't jump in and buy the first one you see. The end of season caravans are usually cheaper.

Hello Steve

As soon as you walk into a van if there is any damp you will smell it,knocking on all the walls will detect it if its there, damp meters are spot on but could detect condensation, spending 3/4k you should get a good van privately,I service my own van apart from the gas you have to get this done by a corgi registered plumber,a service should check the bodywork, electrics, plumbing, fixtures, brakes, tyres, chassi, tow hitch ,I hope i havn`t left anything out,but like they say don`t buy the first you see and take somebody with you who has a van.Good luck

Just be careful buying on ebay, don`t part with your money or give a deposit until you see and inspect if you are not happy WALK AWAY and drive off.

Roy
