I am stuck between two vehicles to replace my Daihatsu Fourtrack. I have the option of either a three year old Kia Sportage 2.0litre diesel reg. 2002 or a Volvo S40 2.0litre diesel reg.2005. Both vehicles are manual transmission and are turbo diesels. Has anybody any observations, either good or bad, on these vehicles for all round performance, ie towing, fuel consumption, etc.

Have you driven either. I drove an older Kia Sportage today, and whilst it was comfy, I just didn't like the ride. Couldn't quite put my finger on what was wrong, but it didn't 'feel' right. I also drove a Suzuki Grand Vitara which drove great, and a Nissan Terrano which was awful. Funny how cars can feel so different.

ive drove the new kia sportage on a test drive and it felt fine solo but not sure how it would tow, never drove a volvo but people seem to rave about them and you see loads towing vans, as for the terrano totally agree with janet it is an absolutely awfull car to drive as is the almost identical ford maverick which i was unfortunate enough to have to use for a week when my old disco broke.
