New towbar

I would very much appreciate some advice on whether the Towball on my brand new removeable towbar (supplied with my new car) requires any form of preparation before hitching to the caravan; remove grease/ "rubbing down" to the base metal? or do you just hitch up and go?

MIKE, If the towball is painted or coated in any way and you plan to use one of the hitchhead type stabilisers then you should clean off all the paint / coating before towing, if you do not then the coating will rub off and contaminate the friction pads on the stabiliser and you will end up with a very loud and annoying scratching noise from the hitch. it happened to me when i got my first new van and car and was not adviced, we ended up having to change the friction pads as they where too bad to clean up.
