Newbie caravanner

Hi all. I have ordered a new Sprite Major 6 TD and will be picking it up next weekend. Can some of the experienced members please advise on best hitch lock and wheel lock for this van?
Many thanks guys.

For wheel lock - is the chassis AlKo and if so does it have the wheel lock receiver? Then use the AlKo wheel lock, expensive but less bulky and get an insurance discount. If it has an AlKo hitch then get the AlKo hitch lock.

If you are looking at a removable wheel clamp I would go for the Nemisis. It is very well made and easy to fit and is adjustable for different size wheels which may be important if you change caravans, like all good clamps it is heavy though.. There is also a Nemisis Ultra which is light and easy to fit and very good if stopping on a motorway services as can be fitted in seconds.
Unless your insurance requires it I would not bother with a hitchlock. Thieves can by pass them easily by chaining the caravan to the towing vehicle or by fabricating a frame to fit over the caravans a frame. In both cases they can drive away without removing any hitchlock.
Whatever you buy go for one that shows the Sold Secure preferably gold logo.

Welcome to the forum John

At the end of the day it's a balance between Insurance premiums, deterrents and protecting your own property.

The Al-ko wheel lock is one of the best Imo. Lining up the receiver and lock is easy. A hitch lock whilst it can be bypassed is still enough to stop the chancer thief. However a determined thief will take your caravan no matter what you do.
Just make sure you have good quality insurance and fully comply with all their terms and conditions.
Ask yourself do you want a stolen trashed caravan back?
