Newbie Cleaning Water System

Hello,
We are pretty new to caravanning having owned our first caravan for about 18 months and are unsure about disinfecting our water system. We have a Bailey Bretagne series 7 which uses an onboard hot water tank and an external aqua roll with a submersible filter.
Last season we read about running a milton solution through the systems before using it after a period of storage and we did this by filling the aqua roll with the diluted Milton solution, removing the submersible filter from the water tube and trying to run the full contents of the aqua roll through the system. I have a feeling we did this wrong through as the system seemed to struggle without the filter on the end of the pipe?
My question is, do we disinfect the system with the submersible filter in place, or were we right to remove it first? I removed it as I didn't want the milton solution to damage the submersible filter??

I am not sure which inlet system you have, is is the Truma Ultraflow with a small round filter on the end of the pipe, or is it the Whale Aquaflow with a large canister type filter on the pipe?

If it is the Truma, then that is just a gauze type filter to stop debris entering the pipe and can be left in place.
If the Whale, then as the filter should be replaced after sterilising, you can leave it on, and discard after sterilising the system and fit a new filter prior to use.

We took out our filter and tossed it in the bin. Water pressure has definitley improved. I don't know how many other caravans use filters these days as our Lunar never had one either.

Also make sure you thoroughly flush the whole system with fresh water. This is particularly important as left over Milton solution can have an adverse effect on the Truma water heater if left in for too long.

I not sure as to what filter you are refering to. If its the filter on the end of the sumersable pump then this stays in place on the pump
If its the large inline filter (mine is under the sink) then it should be renewed once you have sterilized the water system

We only ever use Puriclean, no aftertaste with it.

Not sure whether I am just bone lazy or what but I never disinfect our van water system. Main reason for this is that we never ever consume water from our onboard water system,. Just as we never drink tap water overseas. Our view is once a year is of no use at all, you need to follow this procedure each and every time you go away in the van. Instead of this bind we keep a small container for any drinking water (even the dog) or if convenient take the kettle etc to the tap. After all we keep the van for our relaxation and enjoyment not to potter about looking for loads of un-necessary chores. I realise in these circles this might be heresy but I dont polish the van either, one shampoo a year is all that my other half will tolerate without making comments like "if youve got the time to waste doing all that maybe you would like to make a start in the bathroom etc"
