Hi, we intend to tow the caravan to Faro in December. Is there a list/book/website of suitable places to halt overnight en route.

basically Calais-Le Mans-Boreaux-Burgos-Salamanca-Caceres-Faro and all points in between.

Have you thought about using the Camping & Caravan Club Carefree Winter Sun Service. We travelled to Quarteira on the Algarve early spring last year for a six weeks retirement trip. They arranged all the stopover sites en-route and we stayed at Orbitur Caping in Quarteira for ten nights then used Camping Cheques for the rest of the holiday travelling back through the Costas and back up the Western Coast of France.I had booked the ferry crossing prior to arranging sites with them but could have got a much better deal if I'd booked this through them as well. There aren't that many sites open across central Spoain & Portugal at this time of year and at least you can have the security of knowing their sites will be open and there will be like minded fellow travellers on the sites journeying up or down.We crossed Portsmouth/St Malo then overnighted at Bordeaux,Haro,Salamanca & Evora.

We wern't members of the C & C Club prior to this but the peace of mind was worth the subscription.

Hi Geo

Val A has put you onto the best info.

I overwintered on the Algarve (Lagos, Turiscampo) and used the A66.

One site really stood out this an ACSI site at Caceres, a good last O/N stop. We have also stopped at Zarautz, this close to the French/Spanish border, this a Camping Cheque Banos de Montemayor as this site was within a days trip to a recommended Medieval town La Alberca, I would commend it, if you have time.

We also overnighted at Pancorbo (El Desfiladero) there is a very steep approach upto the site, through a side gate, I would not use it again.

By the way the Turiscampo site is about the best in my and other peoples opinion

hi, we used Turiscampo last year and will do again, great site. Also the little Portugese cafe in Espiche(next village to Turiscampo) does great food, ask the lady lunchtime for a particular portugese dish and she will have it ready for you in the evening. We will split the visit december to march between Olhoa and Turiscampo.

Also a good stop for 1 or 2 nights is Obitur Evora, fantastic town with a walk from thew site.
