Nissan Qashqai

Anyone towed with the New Qashqai? It had great reviews from everywhere but I wondered if anyone (other than a professional reviewer) has any views to share?

I think the engine size has made most people wary of this car. Not driven one but there looks to be far better tow cars for the money given the price. Its win in the test does however show it is competent as it beat some very good tugs.

I have been towing for some 30 years and now tow an Elddis Odyssey 432 of 2004 vintage.I tow it with a 2012 Qashqai with the 1600 tdci diesel.It tows very well and is probably the best tow car/ caravan combo that I have had.
I get about 35 mpg towing and 60 mpg solo so am well satisfied.

Power and handling with a caravan of 1450 mtplm at about 85% is fine and I have no trouble keeping up with traffic within the legal parameters

How the heavier new X Trail will fair with this motor , iam not sure.

The old qashqai was a great towing vehicle and originally came with a 1.5 and 2 litre diesel engines.
Then they changed the 2.0 litre for the 1.6 litre with the same power output but superior fuel economy.
This engine has been carried over to the new models so it is tried and tested and the new chassis had a max towing capacity of 1800kg.
All in all the new model is better in every way except one cost, so I had to look at a different manufacturer.
Great pity as I miss the comfortable seats and easy driving.

I towed with the original Qashqai which had a lower towing weight but the car towed exceptionally well with the 2.0 Diesel. Very strong engine and great suspension travel making it a comfortable tow 🙂
