We have a Ford Maverick which is the same vehicle, different badge. We've only had it two months and so far have managed around 20mpg towing and 28-30 for solo. I find it really comfy although a little bouncy at times. Great visability and as for reliability, apparently it's the same engine as a London Taxi - so that should tell you something. Ours is a 97, P reg and looks in tip top condition. Good luck!

our M reg did 20-22 towing , 25 mpg solo.totally reliable but found its handling unpredictable especially while towing.spent loads on steering and suspension parts in a bid to cure it but it never felt stable.gave up in the end and sold it.we probably just had a bad one.

good luck

Hi,

I've just traded in our 'w' reg Terrano 2.7tdi se for a new Kia Sedona. Had the Terrano for just a year, but found it struggled when towing up even slight inclines, overheated, and the fuel consumption was poor. Having paid 11k for it, I also lost 4.5k when I came to p/ex.

The decision is up to you, but I'd give it a real think before opting for the Terrano. Our's had a decent spec (leather, 6 stack cd etc etc), but it's an old design and the engine and ride our a bit 'agricultural'to say the least.

The Pajero might be a safer bet if you don't mind having a grey import.

Good luck,

Mark

i have a 3.0L NISSAN TERRANO,much more economical than the 2.7 and a far better towcar overall.it's the best tow car ive had and would recommend to anyone.25mpg when towing, about the same on short runs,30 mpg mid range and around 36 mpg on a run

Hi Klarky

I may be wrong, but I thought the Terrano range had been discontinued a year back. If this info is correct, how would it affect the resale value?

I used to work in fleet management and purchasing leasing and financing for large PLC's. Essentially with Cars residuals go on historic values that cars have been achieved either through "trade sale" or retail sales these then are captured by the likes if CAP or Glasses and form a "bible of sorts".

However things like fads or the sudden rise or fall in the popularity of vehicles can have a major effect on the value of cars, as can a manufacturer going broke i.e like Rover. As Nissan is a Profitable concern and the Terrano had an OK rep then residuals will stand up.

However with the price of fuel and Tax then many may be looking to offload in view of a cheaper to run car. Consequently residuals may start to slide if the cycle of used sales slows

Hi Peter,

Can't speak for the 2.7 but we have had an '02 Terrano 3.0 SV for over a year and it is a very good towcar. We are getting a couple of mpg less than Klarky but still acceptable. It has loads of power under the bonnet and if you don't mind burning fuel it is perfectly capable of staying at 60 mph on the motorway irrespective of the hills. On the downside, the gearbox is at best only functional and even after a year coming down the box you can find yourself hunting for a gear, any gear will do at the time. The engine design comes from a generation ago (not common rail) and it is noisier than some of its more refined younger cousins - though nothing that prevents conversation.

hi mike

not experienced the gear hunting, and noise isn't bad at all for a 3.0 l deisel.as for the mpg, this can vary greatly on the way the car is driven,if you put your foot down it does do a guzzling job, have experienced heavy and light fuel consuption due to driving attitude, but overall it is an awesome towcar.mine is the short wheel base which has a slightly better mpg than the long wheel base

Hi,

If you look back into archives there is stuff on the Terrano from about 3 months ago. It was more scathing than the current batch of views and on balance I'd say from mine and others comments it's a model to steer clear of. Too many of us have experienced the vauge steering, indifferent ride and poor economy for it to be just "us"

As I said then - there are much better 4x4's out there judged on price, performance, economy, roominess, ride and towing ability.

ah , so it wasnt just me who found the steering "unpredictable" to say the least.i found it awful with the van on the back, dangerous even as it would suddenly lurch off to one side maybe due to rutting or camber in the road.found it very tiring on a long run as you needed constant correction to keep it going where you wanted it to.I bought it very cheap off a mate who had to sell due to a divorce so i made my money back even after id done work to it to try and correct the awful steering.it was liveable with solo apart from the high mpg and poor ride but its put me off 4x4s big time.
