No VAT on vans more than 2.3 mtrs wide

A few of you guys on here might remember me, To cut a long story short ive had a bit of a bad expeirance on a buying caravan, The full story will eventually come out in public as im sueing the Caravan dealer, A leasing company, And a Secure storage company and trust me it will make good viewing. Can anyone tell me if its true there is no VAT on caravans over 2.3 mtrs wide T.I.A

If you have a look on HM Revenue & Customs you will be able to read more
This is taken from the above link. Point 2 The VAT treatment of caravans
2.2 What is the liability of the supply of a caravan?
For any one making supplies of caravans it is necessary to establish whether or not VAT is chargeable.
The supply will be standard-rated unless the caravan is either:
  • more than 7.0 metres long; or
  • more than 2.3 metres wide
in which case it is zero-rated. Note that these measurements exclude towing bars and any similar apparatus used solely for the purpose of attaching the caravan to a vehicle.

Sorry to say the law changed on April 20 2010 - VAT is chargable on all caravans up to 2.55m wide, bringing the UK into line with the rest of Europe.

Regards
