Noise from Al-Ko stabiliser

Hello All,

I have a Bailey Pageant S7 with an Al-Ko 3004 stabiliser. I have a terrible noise when making even slight turns.

We towed to a site last thursday and all was fine. When we hooked up to leave, the noise was there. As a standard, I alwaysgive the tow ball a quick rub over with emery paper, and give both the ball and the inside of the hitch a quick squirt of brake cleaner.

When the noise started, I stopped and re-cleaned both but it didn't help. When I got home I cleaned the pads of the stabiliser by giving them a good rubbing with emery, then a clean with brake cleaner and a dry cloth. I then gave the ball a good going over in the same way.

This seemed to help for perhaps 10 minutes of towing, then the noise returned same as before.

The ball is spotless, so I don't think it is transferring grease etc to the hitch. The van is approaching 2 1/2 years old and has seen a fair amount of 'action' - we have spent >100 nights in it and covered approx 5K miles of touring. Do you think that a) the pads would need replacing now and b) the symptons sound like worn pads?

Thanks in advance,

Vince.

Hi Vince
Had exactly the same problem and symptoms with our Pageant S6.
Towball was spotless
Pads duly cleaned with brake cleaner.
However, when I took the pads out, noticed that they were slightly "glazed".
A careful bit of scraping,a bit of rubbing with fine emery paper and a clean once again with brake cleaner and never heard the noise again.
I read on another post on here that it could possibly be caused over a period of time if you tow with a deisel(fumes contaminating the pads)?
Im not sure.
Hope this helps.
Adrian
