Noisey water pump

I have a very noisey water pump, when running it either sounds like my container is empty and produces a loud gurgling noise or it produces a high pitch squeal which is very embarrassing and no doubt annoying to my neighbours.

Has anybody come across this problem before? can it be repaired or has it come to the end of its life?

I have had the caravan for 8 months and the pump came with the van {2nd hand}.

Hello Simon,

I assume that you have a submersible pump that you drop into your water container. If it sis squealing then I strongly suspect the motor is on its way out.

Just in case you don't know,it is important not to allow the pump to run when the water container is empty. The pump needs the water flowing through it to keep it cool.

If it runs dry the motor and the shaft seal over heat. If the hot pump is then dropped back into cool water, the air inside the motor housing cools and begins to contract, If the seal is damaged the cooling air will draw water up into the motor housing which will cause the motor to run erratically and may be squeal and eventually destroy the motor.

Always turn the water pump off when travelling, and it is advisable to do the same at night - especially if you have a pressure switched controlled unit.
