Noisy Water Pump

My Brother & Sister-in-Law have a Series 6 Pageant Burgundy but when the taps are turned on, the water pump makes a right racket & the 'van shakes like a goodun!! Without exaggerating, the noise would wake their neighbours on the next pitch if they were to turn on a tap at night.

They took it back to the Oxford dealer for its first service last week & they told them of this "problem". The dealer advised them that the water pump in newer caravans are all this noisy due to their increased efficiency!! If this is the case, I think I'll stick with my 2003 Bordeaux.

Does anyone else have noisy water pumps??

Mark,

I have a 2005 Lunar Quasar and my Water Pump is the Whale Submersible type, this too can be very noisey at times and you also feel as if it's making the van shake. This problem as I am made to believe is common and we just bear it. The problem is exagerated more, if the water system has not been bled properly at the first time of setting up on the pitch,

best regards, Martin

We had a Pageant Series 6 Champagne and I made up a "rubber sandwhich" using some plywood and mounted the pump on that. It did improve it. Also check none of the pipes are touching any side panels as this can make it sound like a roll on the drums.

Mark, your dealer is spinning you a line, do you get woken up by all those pumps every day whilst away, just imagin how noisy the camp sites would be like with everyone using their pumps. Get onto kelly Watts and ask her, your van should not shake. Sounds like the pressure is not right going through the pump. Its an easy fix mine got done on the first service, and has been fine since

I have the latest Whale AquaSmart onboard pump and it's all but silent so as far as this makes concerned I would disagree with your dealers statement.

I did though have considerable problems getting it to be silent until the real reason became clear.

Mounting on a soft pad to insulate the pump from the floor helps a lot, I used two pieces of breathable groundsheet, problem is, this does not stop the noise only cuts down the amplification.

The source of the noise is commonly air being drawn into the pump together with the water.

The pipe connection outside is generally where the air gets in and sealing better, the cure.

To check, if air is present you should be able to see the water moving in the pipe just beyond the pump, it's actually air bubbles you see moving so no air no apparent movement.

There are other possible issues but I'd say air is the first possible to eliminate

Martin,

All pumps will produce some noise, but A submersible pump should not cause banging or shake a caravan. Submersible should be virtually silent inside the caravan, and only marginly noiser outside by the water barrel.

The internal pumps are usually diaphragm pumps, and these are inherently noisier and do vibrate. I know that bailey used to fit sureflo diaphragm pumps in the early 1990s, but I am not familiar with the current models.

i also have a 2008 Series 6 Pageant Burgundy and the water pump is also very noisy and when i looked in the manual it states that it should not be fixed to a solid base.

i have also looked at a series 6 senortor and that has a floating base that the pump is fixed to i when it goes in for service i will make them change the base and put rubber or foam base to the pump.

i have have to fix it i will not be happy
