Noisy water pump!

The water pump on my new Swift Challenger 570 sounds quite similar to a pneaumatic drill. Is this normal?

Hi Andy, No that's not normal, i assume you have a on-board pump, the most common reason for this is air in the pipework, it's critical to make sure all the air is out of the system and there is no restriction in the supply from the aquaroll to the pump.your dealer should be able to sort this for you, when i picked up my new Abbey i had a similar problem very noisy pump, made sure the system was primed properly, there was a kink in the supply pipe, adjusted the pressure switch and problem sorted, the pump is now as quite as the submersible in the old van.

We had this problem with just using the Aquaroll to fill the ordinary boiler - not an onboard tank. No amount of adjustment made any difference until in the end we fitted a surge damper in the line. Costs about

Didn't think it was right. It is noisy when it fills the tank, and a little less when turning on a tap, but still loud enough to worry whether the 'van next door can hear it! I'll try your suggestions and see how it goes. Many thanks.

Doesnt matter what you do you will not stop the horrible noise

if its the new type of pump that sits under the seat. Definitely

a backward step fitting this - just ordered a new van with one of the older type that sit in the water barrel thank goodness.

They call this progress I had a pump with a similar noise back

in the 60's

Sorry Steve, but I don't agree. Our pump was noisy, sounding like a machine gun, and it often came on for short bursts during the night. We thought we had it sorted but if we moved site, it started again, and no adjustment we made lasted. Once we fitted the surge damper, we have had no noise.

The one on our Bailey comes with a surge damper already included

attached to the pump. Its still noisy after moving pipes putting rubber washers / rubber feet - everyone seems to complain about them - why they didnt leave well enough alone and leave them in the barrel i dont know. Another problem was the pump wouldnt switch off it used to just run I turned it off at the mains for half and hour then it would be OK again. Also they are supposed to give a better head of water but (you could have fooled me) looks exactly the same head of water as the old pump in the barrel - anyway wont have to worry about it now I am going back to the pump in the barrel with new van just ordered.

We've got a 2006 Abbey Vogue and have had the same noise from day one with it. Typical that when the dealer had it for service, they couldn't make the noise occur!

However - it happens EVERY time we take the van out. So I resorted to recording the noise using the audio recorder that happens to be on our digital camera!

E-mailed this to the dealer who sent it on to Swift and hey presto! I've got a new pump being fitted!

Do others think I still need one of the

I can only tell you what our experience was. The pump was noisy, kept running on when the taps were turned off, sometimes better than others, but we can only say it was a nuisance, time after time. We fitted the damper and since then no problem. Our dealer said that some pumps can do this and he gave us a new one but we have never had to fit it. I can only say, try your new pump, but if it is still the same, then consider a surge damper. I think

I agree about the horrible noise. Mine is a Swift Conqueror - not cheap - but the noise is sometimes like a train coming through.

My dealer - Discover Leisure - told me "...it is not a problem. I have to get used to it, as it is a more efficient pump than the old submersible. We get 6 - 8 similar calls each week and I tell them the same thing" Can you believe that ? If they're getting that any calls, it obviously IS a problem.

As a consequence, I have now ordered another caravan, and from a different dealer.
