We will be returning from Royan to the channel tunnel in late August and are keen to have a stop not too far from Calais. Our tunnel is booked for 9.30am and we leave our site the day before. Any suggestions? In previous years we have stayed at Le Puits in St Martin des Besaces (brilliant overnight or couple of days spot) and will be there on our outward journey but it is alittle too far to make it for the homeward journey.

When we travel to France we always have our first and last nights at La Bien Assise or Chateau Grandspette, both reasonable distance from Calais, we do this becase of evening arrival and early departure.

Whilst replying to your question perhaps you can help me, we have been looking at Le Puit for 3 nights on our way down to La Rochelle/Royan area. Le Puit has had some good reviews so we thought we would give it a try, is there plenty to do in the area or is 4 days too long, also is it necessary to pre-book we will be arriving there 21st August. Also we have no sites booked for Rochelle area, can you recommend any, we don't necessarily want beach sites but would prefer to be within reasonable distance to the coast.

many thanks Tobago, we have always booked onto le Puits during July/August to avoid disappointment and have stayed max of 2 nights. There is a small village within walking distance with shop, bakery, bar and restaurant also WW2 museum there. It is very convenient for the ports of Le Havre/Caen both within 60-45 minutes drive. We find it just what you need to recharge your batteries, the irish owners are very helpful with tips on where to go etc, we also order via email fresh croissants and bread for our first morning the owner orders for you with local baker who delivers at 8am ready for you to collect from office. We have had a very pleasant stay late august at Sequoia Park

Thanks Les
