Well after the third cancelled trip we are looking good to finally getting away in the new caravan, with the new awning, and new kettle :p

Off to Hawes on Bonfire night for two weeks. Anyone else out in November.

Nope. Third delivery delay on new axle from Alko so we were planning a trip to the Midlands but that's now off the list. So I'm off to Leicester to do some more work in my fathers apartment and to join the Diwali celebrations without the hassle of a long haul flight.

We arrive at Lower Wensleydale in 31st October and leave on 4th November. Going for the bonfire and fireworks in Bedale on the 3rd, and using the preserved railway “Special” for the trip. We enjoyed it all so much last year (stayed in a guesthouse in Askrigg) so decided to bring the caravan this year.

Nigel, have you stayed at Lower wensleydale (Leyburn) before. Just a heads up, the last time we were there the warden wasnt permanently there, and the routine was to pick a pitch and catch him later. may have changed now, its about 8 or 9 years since we were there. We found some pitches quite small and others difficult to access. At the higher part of the site in the wet, some saloons were struggling to get up, spinning out on the gravel.

All that said, its a lovely site, we had ducklings wandering in and out the awning on a daily basis, so tame they could be handled.

I’m sure that Nigel’s Morris Minor having rear wheel drive won’t have a problem on the gravel slope. :)

No, we haven’t, so thanks for the “heads up”.

Quite right Clive! No trouble getting anywhere, especially if I add ballast by sitting in the back and let Mrs H drive.

Nice site that Nigel , the only thing is I don't like the thin road entrance approach on that single track and if the trees are over growing touches the side of the van in and out , other than that it's a lovely site , it is this first site we went to 6 years ago when we first started out . It's nice and handy for Leyburn with some lovely shops , reading that you haven't been before as you go off to the left and down into the site like it's says it's quite steep , round to the left you have the lower part of the site if you continue straight up and up the hill you have the gravel pitches which are still quite nice .
5 minutes down the road from there we use our CL site all the time if you ever fancy trying that bit out in Finghall (sprucegill) . Lovely .

Back On Topic though we are away next weekend to Knaresborough for 4 days can't wait and then have a weekend booked to white water park club site at Teesside just for handiness and the same again beginning of December.

Enjoy

Craig .

Thank you . I'll have to visit that sometime , another place to visit is wesleydale cheese factory outlet , great how it shows you how the cheese is made and the process and all the little free tasters when you're walking round the shop . I was stuffed when I came out :p

Great suggestions! We’re no strangers to the area (although it’s our first visit to the Lower Wensleydale site), and have paid homage to them all, especially the Black Sheep brewery! :woohoo: and the Wensleydale Creamery at Hawes! There’s no wonder I’m the shape that I am!!

Aye, I was the same at Theakstons :cheer:

If you are looking for a meal thats a little bit above the norm, and not expensive, I can thoroughly recommend the Stone House on Bellow Hill, behind Brown Moor Club Site. One of the best meals I have ever had.

https://www.stonehousehotel.co.uk/
5 courses at £39.50 per head.

We're off to Bellingham CCC site for an 80th birthday party. As its such a long haul from South Wales we'll stop off at Moss House just off the M6 for a couple of nights, three or four nights at Bellingham, then maybe Narrow Bridge Cottage, Retford on the way back.
Then I think we're home for a few weeks, prior to New Year (not sure where yet), then we start all over again in 2019. We've got two outings booked for February and March, two in April then off to Europe for our annual three month Spring tour. In between all that, we'll try to fit in some Retro Caravan Club rallies as well.
Anybody want to rent a house in Wales? ;)

The world has been kind to me and I find myself having to take some time off from work in early November, I'm going away in the caravan to somewhereanywhere, regrettably not any further south than Lake District(ish), or north by about 200 miles max from Glasgow.

Looking for suggestions or a meet up, all suggestions welcome.

I just got out of hospital today (only 5 days, grub was good, staff very attentive, regular new people arriving (some with friends visiting for the day) we all became pretty intimate as to what everyone was there for - and what their little foibles looked like). What more could one want?

3rd bout of pneumonia in less than eleven months, I could get used to this :p

Hi Mel, which site are you staying at, might manage a meet up for the afternoon. We are 5 miles north west of Bletchly.

Addendum - Just been out to get the locks off and turn the van round, and it's 'bl--ding' snowing.!
Thermometer showing 4.8°, -- 'global warming'?, Fingers freezing!

That’s very bad news John. I’m surprised!
I’d head north from Glasgow and enjoy Bunree CAMC site, close to Ballachullish and Fort William. Plenty of good dining places, no midges now, and the railway to Mallaig for a day out.

Yes I would be very much up for that DD, I know the area pretty well, hard not to choose to go there.

Trouble is that I feel a bit insecure (my recovery is only beginning a(bloody)gain ).

The Rannoch Moor and surrounds can catch one out from here on in until spring, normally not a second thought for me, but the thought of an ambulance sitting behind a snow plough, prioritising just for me and the fact that I may not even have a cell-phone connection is concerning in the extreme.

Being stuck and isolated is not a problem, being ill in a similar situation is a no-no.

This big softy must be gettin old,

Thanks Dusty, maybe find somewhere a little less spectacular than Bunree, but hey, you really lifted my spirits with your suggestion, thanks friend.

The rest of my evening will end up with me going to bed or not at all; steroids - they are a hoot :silly:

Hopefully catch up with one of you over the coming weeks, and yes, I will get a couple of rounds in :)

Oh dear John, a bit worse than I thought. :(
Let’s hope all the drugs work and give you a fast full recovery. I understand your concern about the proximity of healthcare. I do worry as age and health catch up with us caravanning may become more difficult. So well done planning a trip in November. Maybe a few more of Pressie’s curry’s will clear the bronchial tubes ;)
Ok , how about a trip to CAMC in the heart of Melrose. A lovely town, full of history and good hostelries to match all pockets?
Where ever you go hope all goes well. Best wishes. DD :)
