Hi Gareth, we are planning to go first to the Loire then to Normandy (an ex-colleague now stays in Pierric) before returning along the coast to Calais. We haven't finalised our route yet or decided on ANY sites yet but we are going in September so I don't anticipate any problems.

I was surprised how easy it was to obtain the Pet Passports and thought they were reasonably priced - certainly cheaper than the kennels we use! Biggest problem is kicking off the process in plenty of time.

Hi Malcom , That sounds like a great Hiliday, I've never been to the loire but i've been to Normandy a few times, its lovely.

Our dog has all his jabs for a passport , we've just got to get him chipped and we can apply. Is it easy?

I never sat at home if hubby had to work, if you have passed your driving test you should be able to tow a caravan or not be on the road.

My dad had me driving a Transit van the day I passed my test, there is no condition saying lady drivers should only drive pretty girlie compact cars.

Calais to the Vendee or Loire in a day is a breeze on French roads, my sister and I do it with her kids.

Hi Gareth,

Our two Labradors were already chipped so we only required the rabies jabs followed, three weeks later, by the blood tests. It took about two weeks for the results of the blood tests to be sent to our Vet and then he issued the Pet Passport documentation. Had they failed the blood test for any reason, it would have been back to square one with more injections and another blood test.

Now that everything is in place, we could take them abroad tomorrow but they stil cannot come back, without going into quarantine, until six months have elapsed from, I think, the blood test. Once the six months has elapsed, they can go back and forth as often as wished.

The cost was

Thats very interesting malcolm i'll know what to expect when we get him done now. We're not going over the water this year, not with the caravan anyway!

My parents now live on Alderney [Channel islands] so we are going down to the New Forest for two weeks with Helen's parents, they'll have the dogs and caravan for the first week whilst we fly over to Alderney. We'll then return to them for the second week.

Maybe France next year...........

Glad to have been of help. Enjoy your hols. It has been very pleasant in the NE of Scotland for a few days now. When in a sheltered corner of the garden, it feels like summer is arriving!
